The NHS Health Check is a free 30-minute review of your cardiovascular health for adults aged 40 to 74. During the appointment we will measure your blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI and blood sugar, then discuss your results and lifestyle together. We also calculate your QRISK score — your ten-year risk of experiencing a heart attack or stroke — and give you personalised advice to lower that risk. To be eligible for the free NHS Health Check you must be aged 40 to 74 and not have any of the following pre-existing conditions: • heart disease • chronic kidney disease • diabetes • high blood pressure (hypertension) • atrial fibrillation • transient ischaemic attack (TIA) • inherited high cholesterol (familial hypercholesterolemia) • heart failure • peripheral arterial disease • stroke • currently prescribed medicines to lower cholesterol, such as statins If you are not eligible for the free NHS Health Check, we can still see you for a private full health check which costs £45.
