Through the NHS Pharmacy First service, our pharmacists can assess certain common conditions and, where clinically appropriate, provide advice and treatment.
Pharmacy First covers seven common conditions. The age requirements vary depending on the condition.
Children aged 1–17 years
Assessment of ear pain (acute otitis media).

People aged 5 years and over
Assessment of a painful or inflamed throat.

Blocked nose, facial pain or pressure.

Bites that look infected — redness, swelling or warmth.

A contagious skin infection with crusty sores.

A painful rash, usually on one side of the body.

Symptoms such as burning when passing urine.

Our pharmacist will ask about your symptoms, medical history and medicines and assess whether Pharmacy First is appropriate.
Where clinically appropriate, the pharmacist can provide advice and treatment. If you need further medical attention, we will advise you on the appropriate next step.
For eligible Pharmacy First conditions, you can access the service directly through a participating pharmacy. You do not necessarily need to see your GP first.
Our pharmacist will assess your symptoms and decide whether Pharmacy First is appropriate. If another healthcare service is more suitable, we will advise you on the next step.
